Team Dr Pepper began competing in the challenge in 1998. James and Carla Thompson with Vernon Dr Pepper along with the many other local sponsors have supported Team Dr Pepper in competitions across the United States in places like The National Mall in Washington D.C., Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, and Las Vegas.
August 2008 Altus Fire/Rescue Department ~ Team Dr Pepper, hosted The Regional Firefighter Combat Challenge competition with great success. One hundred-thirty (130) firefighters representing departments from 7 states (Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Colorado, Massachusetts, and Alaska) competed. Over 2000 spectators from SW Oklahoma and Texas attended.
The event location was ideal, providing walking access to lodging,
restaurants, sporting goods, a grocery store and general needs shopping.
Many competitors commended our event, stating it was the best they
attended in 2008; some competitors attended over 10 prior to Altus.
Our event is highly recommended on the competitor message boards, and
the road crew said it was their favorite in 2008.

Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge®:
The Challenge annually attracts hundreds of U.S. and
Canadian municipal fire departments at more than 25
locations and is now expanding to countries around the
world, including New Zealand, Germany, Argentina,
Chile, and South Africa. The Challenge seeks to encourage
firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession's
rigors to the public.
Wearing "full bunker gear" and the SCOTT Air-Pak
breathing apparatus, pairs of competitors
race head-to-head as they simulate the physical
demands of real-life firefighting by performing a linked
series of five tasks.
HIGH-RISE PACK CARRY
A 42-lb 3” hose high-rise pack is carried
up and placed in a container at the top
of the 5-Story Tower Climb. Both feet
must be on deck before dropping the
pack. The pack cannot touch the deck
at any time.
HOSE HOIST
A 42-lb donut roll of hose is hoisted up the 5-Story
Tower using 5/8” rope. The roll is placed in a container
on deck. The roll cannot touch the deck. On descent,
every step has to be touched and the handrail used at all
times.
FORCIBLE ENTRY
On the Keizer Force Machine, the
competitor uses a 9-lb mallet to drive
a 160-lb sled 5 feet.
HOSE ADVANCE
The competitor negotiates a 140 feet slalom course by
charging the hose line and dragging the hose 75 feet.
There are swinging doors at the 75 foot threshold.
When the nozzle penetrates the swinging doors, the
competitor opens the nozzle and hits a target with
the water stream.
VICTIM RESCUE
Rescue Randy®, a 175-lb mannequin,
is lifted and dragged backwards 100 feet.
The time clock stops when both the
competitor and mannequin cross the finish line.
