The City of Altus abides by the
International Fire Code. Section 508 FIRE PROTECTION WATER SUPPLIES
gives the following guidelines for property owners/renters that
have a fire hydrant on the premises.

The fire department shall not be deterred or hindered from gaining
immediate access to fire protection equipment or fire hydrants.

The fire hydrant will be clearly visible and accessible from
the street.

Fire hydrants are color coded to indicate the amount of water in gallons
per minute that the hydrant will produce. DO NOT PAINT OR DECORATE THE
FIRE HYDRANTS.

A minimum 3-foot clear space shall be maintained around the
circumference of fire hydrants.

Growth of plants, trees, and shrubs will be considered prior to
planting to ensure a 3-foot clear circumference of fire hydrants.

Maintenance of plants, trees, and shrubs will be completed to ensure
a 3-foot clear circumference of fire hydrants.

Posts, fences, vehicles, growth, trash, storage and other materials or
objects shall not be placed or kept near fire hydrants, fire department
inlet connections or fire protection system.
