The mission for every Member of the Altus Police Department is to seek and find ways to promote, preserve and deliver a genuine feeling of security, safety and quality of life to all members and visitors of the community.

Location:

The City of Altus is located in the far southwestern portion of Oklahoma 19 miles north of the Red River, 39 miles east of the Texas border. Altus' population is currently 23,000 supporting our department of 63 employees.

Structure:

The police department currently employs 51 police officers that includes 37 full-time patrol officers, 6 full-time detectives,1 part-time detective, and 7 reserve patrol officers. The Enhanced 911 dispatch center currently employs 11 full-time dispatchers and 2 reserve dispatchers. The department also employs two secretaries for records and one secretary for the Chief of Police.
